This section addresses legal considerations specific to working with fashion models, including compliance with modeling agency regulations, understanding contracts for models, and highlighting legislation related to child models. It emphasizes the importance of ethical practices and legal compliance in the modeling industry to protect
both the models and the designer's brand reputation.
Employers must: (for the state of New York)
- Obtain a certificate of eligibility to employ child performers from the New York Department of Labor (NY DOL).
- Submit a notice of child performer use to the NY DOL at least two days before each event.
- Ensure child models have valid work permits.
- Adhere to restricted working hours, including providing breaks for every four hours worked.
- Maintain documentation of models’ trust accounts and deposit 15% of their earnings into these accounts.
